Embracing the Power of Community: Group Training at The Body Camp by Sophie Tonks

Group fitness at The Body Camp, isn’t just about breaking a sweat…it’s about embracing the power of community. It’s about coming together, learning from one another, and building connections that last long after the retreat. Here you arrive as strangers but leave as a tight-knit family of cheerleaders – and trust me, that’s one of the most rewarding aspects of spending a week (or two) with us.

I have always been drawn to group training – I joined a gym the day I was old enough, eager to test out every fitness class on the timetable. From group HIIT and circuit classes to run classes to run clubs and dance classes, I’ve always been a fan of training with other people. This passion later led me to Crossfit, where the community aspect became a driving force behind my dedication to the sport.

But why am I such a fan of group fitness training?

  • Energy: the cheers, the high-fives and the playful competitiveness combine for a big old fitness party where the energy is off the charts. The Body Camp, with the addition of sunshine, protein shakes and some disco dance classics, energy levels soar, making every session unforgettable.
  • Accountability: we’ve all been there – hitting the snooze button, swapping squats for the sofa and driving home instead of to the gym.  But when you’ve got a team of people counting on you to show up and train with them at The Body Camp, you’ll be jumping out of bed ready to tackle whatever the day brings – even if it involves burpees.
  • Fun: Unlike solo gym sessions where you might find yourself glued to your phone or zoning out between sets, group fitness is all about the fun factor. Whether it’s pool games, partner workouts, or team challenges, you’ll be having such a blast that you’ll forget you’re breaking a sweat.
  • Confidence: With a supportive community cheering you on every step of the way, your confidence soars. Knowing that everyone around you is rooting for your success gives you the courage to push past your limits and achieve things you never thought possible. Think you can’t do a pull-up? Come to The Body Camp and learn that every single person CAN.
  • Learning: Whether you are a fitness newbie or a seasoned athlete – every person who comes to The Body Camp has something to learn, but also something to teach. We encourage guests to become coaches in their own right, checking form, giving cues to their workout partner, and motivating the rest of the crew. We want you to go home with a newfound confidence to move your body – and actually enjoy it too!
  • Community: Just like my CrossFit gym became a second home filled with friends who shared my journey, The Body Camp is a place where you’ll be surrounded by incredible people with amazing stories and a shared passion for fitness.
